The Launch of a Movement empowering young people to end world hunger

In 2025 July WFP USA put forth Zero Hunger Generation which is an very large scale initative to get youth engaged in the global hunger issue. At a time of over 343 million people world wide that are at risk of life threatening food insecurity which is a numbers which is approximate to that of population of the US at this time we have never seen a greater need for innovative and youth run solutions.

Zero Hunger Generation which is a part of that change, it plays to Gen Z’s interest in social justice, their digital skills, and their want to be a part of meaningful action, we see a program that is a mix of education, service, and career growth which is put forth to tackle one of the great issues of our time.

Why Zero Hunger, Why Now?

The Escalating Global Hunger Crisis

The UN reports that at 2025 we may have 117 million people without aid as a result of fund gaps.3.

The Role of Gen Z in the Hunger Crisis

Gen X’ers which include the people born in the mid-1990s to early 2010s have grown up in a world which is very much a global village and are exposed to stories and issues from all parts of the planet. WFP USA’s recent poll which we saw reports that eradicating global hunger is at the top of Gen Z’s international priority list which past generations didn’t share as a large issue. Also this generation’s global citizenship, when added to their digital skills and dedication to social action, makes them a great force for change.

A Gamified Approach to Activism

At the core of the Zero Hunger Generation is a game which rewards action. We see a range of activities from educational webinars and book clubs to volunteer work, advocacy campaigns, and fundraising which young people take part in to earn points that in turn track their progress and open up new opportunities.
