In trade policy he pushed for protectionism via tariffs that supported American manufacturing and reduced trade deficits which in turn made tensions with our long time allies and trading partners.
At the same time Trump achieved what were to be historic agreements like the peace deals in the Middle East and put pressure on NATO allies for greater defense spending. Some supported these actions which they saw as putting American interests first, while also many which condemned them as damaging to allies and international institutions.
