Donald Trump Presidential Achievements: A Review of His Administration’s Great Achievements

From 2017 to 2021 Donald Trump Presidential Achievements and controversial in recent American history. His administration put forth a radical agenda which sought to remake the economy, roll back regulation in key industries, reform the judiciary, and to reframe U.S. foreign policy in the “America First” terms. This article looks at the main policy issues and achievements of the Trump administration which played out to change the political and economic structure of the United States.

Economic Policy and Tax Reform: A large scale achievement which left a complex legacy.

One of Trump’s signature accomplishments was the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 which Donald Trump’s Presidential Achievements overhauled the tax structure and saw the corporate tax rate drop from 35% to 21%. That reform put forth to stimulate investment, improve business competitiveness, and to greatly improve economic growth. The admin said the tax cuts we see in this act caused robust job growth and record low unemployment which we saw pre-pandemic also especially in minority communities. Many businesses reported greater after tax profits which in turn revved up some segments of the economy.

However this policy did not go unchallenged. Critics put forth that the tax cuts which were a feature of this period had in fact widened federal deficits to record levels and also that the breaks which were put in place mostly went to large corporations and the wealthy which in turn left many middle class taxpayers in the dark as to the tax cut’s long term economic benefits.

Public response to the tax cuts was mixed which saw Democrats do very well in framing the issue as one which favored the rich at the expense of the middle class. Also to come out of this was a promise from future adminstrations to either change or at the very least repeal elements of the legislation which they saw as broken thus the tax cut issue is a very divisive policy legacy.

Deregulation: Deregulating Key Sectors for Growth.

Trump pushed for large scale deregulation of what he referred to as the “excessive regulatory action’ that which was mostly from the previous administration. In specific areas like the environment, health care and finance he went after preeminent issues. Notable actions included the withdrawal of Donald Trump presidential achievements the Waters of the United States Rule, the replacement of strong fuel economy rules with the Safer Affordable Fuel-E Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles rule, and the reduction of the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule.

These regulatory changes were put in place to foster economic growth via reduction of compliance costs which in turn benefited energy, manufacturing, and agriculture industries the most. We were told that we’d see annual savings of over $220 billion for consumers and businesses which in large part improved affordability and choice. But critics put forth that there would be what they saw to be negative results from these changes in particular regarding environmental protection and public health which in turn put into relief the struggle between economic issues of the present and sustainable practices for the future.

Deregulation also saw to it that health care costs went down which in turn saved the medical community about $6.6 billion and we also saw about 42 million hours of compliance work come to a close by 2021. While supporters present these steps as a return to American freedoms and stimulation of the economy, opponents present that some of these deregulatory moves did in fact remove what are very important safety measures.

Judicial Appointments: Transforming the Federal Judiciary for a Generation.

Neil Roegusche, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

This transformation saw the energizing of conservative groups which supported the Court’s which they felt aligned with their values in issues of abortion, religious liberty and regulation. The appointees were of fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promise to put in judges which interpreted the Constitution very literally and reduced federal government power. They stood out as a signature issue of his presidency with large scale results in social, economic, and civil rights issues.

Immigration and Border Security: Implementing Strict Policies.

During Trump’s time in office immigration policy was a major issue which he approached from a very tough angle that which was meant to decrease illegal immigration and improve border security. He put forth the border wall at the U.S.-Mexico border as a key initiative, travel bans which targeted what he identified as terrorist prone countries, and the very controversial “Remain in Mexico” program which made asylum seekers wait in Mexico while their cases played out in U.S. courts.

These issues saw great support from Trump’s base and from conservative lawmakers which put forth that they were a requirement for national security and sovereignty. Critics put forth that they were too harsh and inhumane which in turn brought to light the human cost and legal issues. Although legal results were mixed and the issue is still very much up for debate immigration reform under Trump did see also to be a symbol of a larger national and poplar shift in the Republican Party’s platform.

The administration also went after red tape in health care regulations which in turn was to see cost reduction and increased choice for the consumer. We saw it as a step to save American’s almost 10% on prescription drugs and to also ease bureaucracy in the medical community. But also on the issue of health care reform as a whole we did not see much progress the debate over what is the best way to tackle the health care issues we face is still very much divided among lawmakers and voters.

Energy Policy and Environmental Regulations: Increasing Energy Self Sufficiency.

Trump’s administration put an end to many of Obama’s environmental policies which they did in large part for the cause of energy independence. We saw the withdrawal from the Clean Power Plan and also a scaling back of restrictions on fossil fuel production which includes oil, gas, and coal. Also we had the Navigable Waters Protection Rule which took in a broader bridle of water regulations in favor of farmers and developers.

Proponents of this issue saw that which put America’s energy industries back on the map, created jobs, and reduced energy costs. But environmental groups warned of greater pollution and long term damage to natural resources. Trump’s policies played into his larger plan to put economic growth above environmental regulations which was a signature issue of his administration.

Foreign Policy: America First and World Reordering.

Trump’s foreign policy saw a break from past U.S. multilateralism which in favor of an America First approach. His admin left long standing alliances and agreements in the lurch which included the Paris Climate Accord and the Iran nuclear deal. In trade policy he pushed for protectionism via tariffs that supported American manufacturing and reduced trade deficits which in turn made tensions with our long time allies and trading partners.

At the same time Trump achieved what were to be historic agreements like the peace deals in the Middle East and put pressure on NATO allies for greater defense spending. Some supported these actions which they saw as putting American interests first, while also many which condemned them as damaging to allies and international institutions.
