Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy  From Tryout to U.S. Junior Champions

Beginnings of the Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy Partnership

In the world of figure skating which is known for partnerships that develop over years of training and growth for Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy it was different. They met in May 2023 for a very short tryout in the U.S. Although they spent a little time together at first, they connected right away.

He came round for a week. and we hit it off immediately, Moss recalls. Galbavy which had another try out scheduled in Europe, in the end decided to go back to the U.S. and skate with Moss. I had to make a decision he says, and most definitely I made the right one.

In a short two weeks of tryout they left for Galbavy’s home in Bratislava, Slovakia which was the beginning of the transatlantic move to this new association. The transition was tough at such a young age to leave family, friends, and school out of question was a great emotional ask. “It was hard to go at such young age without my parents’ company”, he said. But I do thank Reagan’s parents, Reagan, my guest family and the coach. I am very glad it all worked out!

Early Competitions and Rapid Progress for Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy

Moss and Galbavy didn’t delay in making their competitive debut. Only ten weeks since they formed the team they entered the non-qualifying Mid-Atlantics event which is a part of the 2023 John Nicks Pairs Challenge. They did very well they won the short program which also marked Galbavy’s first ever pairs competition.

In our first competition together it was also the first time out of pairs for Jakob so we had an entirely new experience which we went through, but I think he really enjoyed it.

Overcoming Challenges – Teamwork Driving Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy

The first year out of high school we had our issues. We adjusted to different training routines, we learned how to better put out words to what we wanted to say, and we dealt with the media and fans’ expectations which at time were hard to live up to. But our head coach Trudy Oltmanns says that what kept us going was our strong wills and that we respect each other.

They have a great connection which is what I noticed, they put each other on a pedestal. He told me he felt like he won the lottery when he was skating with her, and she felt the same. They are very much in sync not only in the ice but also in work ethics which we think is the most important for a match, also their personalities are a great fit.

Moss echoed this sentiment: We were at the same growth stage, and we had the aim to progress together. I had this need to put in our full effort which also was new for the both of us.

The 2024‑25 Season: Growth and Resilience for Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy

In the 2024-25 season Moss and Galbavy saw great success which they grew into. They started out with a 2nd place finish at the Glacier Falls Summer Classic which was followed by a 6th place at their first ever Junior Grand Prix in Latvia. Also that season they won gold at the John Nicks Pairs Challenge and took part in their 2nd JGP in Poland where they placed 9th.

After in the Tayside Trophy which the team placed 4th in the UK, in the 2025 Pairs Final they improved to 2nd place and secured their spot at the U.S. National Championships for the second year in a row.

Despite success’ the team felt there is more we could have achieved. “I wanted to bring to the game what we put into practice, Moss said. “To execute every element of practice to perfection. And also to prove that what we do in practice we can do in competition. That was what we were going for.

Galbavy did so which also brought up that we did in fact realize we had to put our heads together and come up with a game plan on how to compete as a team, how to handle that nervous energy and also to what degree we could project calmness in our practice.

Triumph in Wichita: Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy Become American Junior Champions

At the 2025 U.S. National Championships in Wichita Moss and Galbavy put themselves in a very close race with the seasoned pair of Oliva Flores and Luje Wang. Leading going into the short program which was almost a dead heat at that point.

In the past we did very well against them in the short program which we were in that’s what I recall, said Moss. Also we went into the free skate which was great, we didn’t really sense any pressure from them or any pressure at all.

Galbavy also said that the pressure is a constant thing, for sure, but it was not that which is to say we have to beat them or anything. We just wanted to be on the podiam and do our best. We really out to enjoy it.

World Junior Championships: Lessons for Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy

Winning the national title got Moss and Galbavy into the 2025 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Debrecen, Hungary. For their world stage debut however it was a different story. Which saw them fall out of the top 15 in the short program they finished 17th which also left them out of the free skate.

Complicated by the fact that Moss had a knee injury which occurred a week before the event. “At the time of the injury my knee was so swollen that I couldn’t bend it to practice the jump. Also I didn’t get a chance to practice the throw again until we arrived at the event, she reported.

Despite the defeat the team was still proud of how far they had come. “To be honest we aimed to get to Junior Worlds via the Nationals which we achieved. That’s what we are really proud of, said Moss.

Training and the Road Ahead for Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy

At present the pair are on the ice in the early morning at a hockey facility as their home rink goes through a $37 million renovation. They will be at Glacier Falls in late July which also marks their aim to secure more JGP spots for the coming season. As for whether they will move up to the senior level at nationals that is yet to be seen.

Their journey while still early is a study in resilience and ambition and a partnership which transcends the ice. At each challenge Moss and Galbavy prove they are beyond the scope of a typical skating team.
