In 2025 at the USA Triathlon and Paratriathlon National Championships in Milwaukee which will see great athletic competition we also see large scale changes to local traffic, road access, and parking. For the duration of the event expect road closures and parking restrictions which will affect participants, residents, and visitors. By being aware of these issues in advance you can plan to minimize your inconvenience and have a smooth experience.
Very large scale road closures in Milwaukee which are affecting key streets
In 2025 for the run up to the USA Triathlon Milwaukee road closures which take place from August 8 to 10 we will see several main streets closed to traffic at times. This is to ensure athlete safety and smooth race operations. Also it will include:.
At 30 p.m. and August 10 from 4 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. the following roads will be closed to vehicles:
- East Michigan which runs from North Lincoln Memorial Drive to its end.
- North Museum Drive between East Michigan and Eastbourne Streets.
- Eastbourne Street, from North Museum Drive to North Lincoln Memorial Drive.
- Harbor Drive between East Clybourn and North Lincoln Memorial.
These are the closures of key routes by the lakeshore and very popular city access points which in turn is very much a part of the traffic and transit flow during peak hours.
Also during event days access to North Lincoln Memorial Drive will be closed at some points which include:
- East of Mason Street at Prospect.
- East at Lafayette Place on East Lafayette Hill Road.
- East on Water Tower Road at North Terrace Avenue.
Such measures see that which roads in to and out of some areas is prohibited and that drivers find other routes before the event starts.
Parking Rules and Regulations to Note
Before the event which is seeing great turnouts and also in support of the closure of the roads we have put in place parking restrictions which will stay in effect for some time after the event:.
- From August 2 until 11: At 5:05 p.m. of August 11 parking is banned on both sides of North Drive between Clybourn Street and North Lincoln Memorial Drive.
- Until at 8 p.m. on August 10th parking is not allowed on either side of Eastbourn Street which includes the stretch from North Memorial Drive to North Art Museum Drive.
Likewise we see that on all the east side of East Street between Lincoln Memorial Drive and North Art Museum Drive it is banned.
These parking bans are in place for race infrastructure, athlete flow, and emergency vehicle access. We ask that residents and visitors use the designated lots and other transit options which will be made available failure to do so may result in fines and towing.
Special Notes for Paratriathlon Participants and Supporters
In 2025 the Paratriathlon National Championships will also take place which we will host as part of the multi sport weekend. Paratriathlon is a triathlon which has adapted disciplines for athletes with physical impairments. This includes a push to greater diversity and inclusion in competitive racing which is a goal of USA Triathlon. yahoo
Although there are specific road closures for Paratriathlon as part of the race organization, also some additional timing issues may present itself in relation to those events which we put in place for full athlete support and safety. We have put out word on these to the public and also ask that all participants and spectators check in for the latest info on access and parking.
Tips for Participants and Community Members to Navigate the Event
To reduce interruption and present a positive experience at the 2025 USA Triathlon and Paratriathlon.
Plan Ahead for Alternative Routes: Since main roads and access points will be shut, use of alternate streets, public transit, or carpools is recommended.
For those that are in to get to the downtown Milwaukee area before the race, or which are delayed leaving due to the race, you may want to time your arrival at a different which is out of the main road closure periods.
Respect No-Parking Zones: Avoid ticketing and vehicle towing by staying out of affected areas. Park in designated lots or at a distance from the race zone and use shuttles.

Additional Context: Wider impact of similar events
Milwaukee has a history of hosting large scale triathlon events. In that which regards these types of events we see consistent use of what may be called emergency traffic measures in order to at the same time protect race safety and also keep the city running. With the 2025 USA Triathlon we see the same procedures that other big triathlons such as the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in St. Petersburg, Florida do which is to have long term closure of certain roads, access restrictions, and parking bans which last from early in the morning to mid afternoon or out late into the evening.
Cities that play host to triathlions see to it that they have in place very detailed traffic impact plans which they put in action months in advance which they spend time with local law enforcement, transport authorities and emergency responders to that end. We look at the scale and type of closures full vs intermittent, loop course vs point to point which in turn helps residents and visitors to better deal with the temporary changes.
In 2025 USA Triathlon and Paratriathlon in Milwaukee will see large scale road closures and parking restrictions which will take place from early August 8 through August 11 which will center around key lakeshore and museum district streets. We ask that all residents, participants and visitors do extensive planning in advance of the event which is a prestigious national championship. Also to that end we ask that you check in with official sources regularly before and during the event days for the most up to date info on what roads are closed, what the restrictions are and what accessible options we have.
